There is a new release (as of June 6, 2002) of the LC MODS (Metadta Object Description Schema) schema. The web page hasn't been updated to reflect the new version, but the online version of the schema is now at version 1.15 (the web page still says 1.0). LC has also updated the MARC to MODS mapping file (as of June 8, 2002) simplifying some of the more difficult mappings. The example files do not seem to have been updated yet as they do not validate against the new schema. [editor's note, by jaf] The link to the MODS homepage is http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/

LC has just released a new literal transliteration of MARC into XML. This, they say, is the new LC standard (replacing the earlier DTD-validated version). It does not, however, look like MARCXML will replace their MODS effort which is a non-literal conversion of MARC into XML.
