MODS-3.0 out

LoC announced last week that MODS 3.0 is now available. They also have a page listing changes in this version. They also indicated they would be releasing revs to the MARCXML2MODS docs and stylesheets soon, and releasing another new version of MODS that makes some subelements global before much longer. Good news.

Those attending midwinter might be interested in this meeting:

MARC Format and XML Syntax: Relationships and Possibilities
ALA Midwinter Conference in San Diego, California
Saturday, 10 January 2004
2:00-4:00 p.m.
San Diego Convention Center, Room 1B

I am scheduled to leave that morning but I am making a last-gasp attempt to get some travel funding to stay on for this. I would be really curious to see where FRBR and authorities might fit into MARC-related XML activities.

Others pointed the finger at Microsoft for not making it clear how to turn on such a simple function as reading e-mail attachments. "I think most of us here can agree that Microsoft bears the primary blame," wrote another reader. "Microsoft is notorious for not having answers for obvious questions and insane look-up terms. But it is hard to understand how Dell can charge $149 to answer a common and trivially easy question. If questions like this are costing them real money, then they should be telling Microsoft and requiring better documentation."Bring life into your favorite memories with Photo Story 3 for Windows? by adding motion, effects, music, and more to your digital photos.
