New linklogger: take it for a spin

Been working on a from-scratch logging tool on which to try out some of the ideas I've written about recently. So far there's a simple toolkit for linklogging with basic functions and dynamic RSS feeds for individuals and groups like you would expect. I'd like to release this soon but would love to see it tested by more folks first. If you have a few spare cycles please give it a whirl here.

Here's a sampling of planned features for testing in this toolkit: an entry type system with decent metadata (currently it just does links with titles and comments); a prototype linkrouter; simple (braindead!) link-host authority control; a category system like del.icio.us; more export features (XBEL, RIS, MODS, whathaveyou); support for mod_context, and maybe OAI (why not?); additional indexing schemes like affinity or similarity. And at some point it will undergo some kind of design phase so at least the forms won't be so bland and usability-free.

This is all written in python using the astoundingly useful Quixote web framework and a ZODB backend. Thumbs way up for both so far...

This is very cool. Another feature would be to make it a target for blog "pings", so that whenever you post to your blog the new entry would be added to your linkstack - on the assumption that you blog about the same stuff you stack links about. Your outside audience might then see a trail of links you were reading on a certain topic, culminating in a blog entry that gives your considered conclusions.

I ran across a line in Vannevar Bush predicting all this, by the way: "There will be a new profession of trailblazers, those who find delight in the task of establishing useful trails through the enormous mass of the common record." ("Memex Revisited", reprinted in Science is not Enough, p.99).
