From the email announcement: Avanti MicroLCS is a Java based OPAC and cataloging system for use in small libraries of all types. It is platform independent, very scalable, and with a unique monolithic client-server architecture, requires no third party software components other than a Java runtime environment.

Much of the work over the past year (since the last update) has been devoted to improving basic capabilites and features, with particular attention paid to the user interface. New features in Beta 3 include a powerful and flexible boolean search capability, redesigned user interfaces that are clean simple and easy to use, a context sensitive online help system, and standalone Java clients. Beta 3 comes close in terms of basic features what the complete version 1.0 will look like, which will form the core of a complete library system. Much of what is left to do involves fleshing out, packaging and finishing the end-user documentation, which is still a work in progress.
